“So you are going on another holiday,” my friends say. “Let me guess,” they say, “not Thailand again?” Yes of course it is. But not just Thailand, I have my sights firmly set on Agape Home in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Depending on what you want to believe, I either found Agape Home three years ago purely by accident, or by God’s divine guidance. I choose the latter.
I was house sitting for three months in 2012 for people I barely knew. After two weeks, the three months was looking like a life sentence. So I did what every 21st century person does – I googled “children’s homes in Chiang Mai.” God led me to Agape Home.
Dianne at Agape
I come back annually to serve in whatever capacity I can. In 2012 it was with babies. Then in 2013, by yet another opportunity presented by God via Agape, I cared for beautiful women in the small unit where very sick women can come and rest, recover or be in a safe caring environment as they move towards home with Jesus.
Serve is what I do, wherever I can be of most use. My Thai language skills have a long way to go. But my hands and feet are all for Jesus. So I pray daily that language will be clear to everyone I meet and work with at Agape and in the village nearby.
In answer to my friends, “Yes, I am on another holiday in Thailand. A holiday of love, laughter, friendships, both new and old, but most importantly, doing a job God has designed just for me.” I believe God has found a place for a very lonely woman (a few years ago) to find purpose in life and be of use to not only children in great need but to support and encourage the people who work day after day, year after year, at this wonderful home of God’s Love – Agape Home.
Perhaps there are those of you out there reading this who have also lost a spouse or a child, but for whatever reason can’t travel to Thailand. Perhaps I can be YOUR hands and feet? Perhaps we could chat via this blog? Perhaps you could ask me questions or share your story or leave words of encouragement for me? Can I pray for you? Please say something and encourage me. I may seem strong in the Lord, but it’s a pretty hard life at my age. You understand…
